Celebrating Milestones
The summer chapels of the Diocese of New Hampshire, of which Emmanuel is one, have a long history of pastoral care and support for those families and persons who find these chapels significant in their faith life and spiritual growth. The chance to “come away” and “come apart” similar to Jesus’ retreats to the hills, mountains, and wilderness of Palestine offer renewal and refreshment for our hearts and souls. Here, families and friends mark the special times and transitions of our lives.
Baptism & Confirmation
In consultation with the summer priest-in-charge, Emmanuel is delighted to offer this sanctuary as a place for the baptism of children and adults. The first baptism was held at Emmanuel in 1893. Since then 138 persons have received this Sacrament.
This rite is a sacred one, binding the person to Christ and the Church in a life-long relationship of spiritual nurture, formation and service. We hope that if a family seeks to baptize an infant or adult at Emmanuel, that one’s “home church” be informed of this sacramental Rite that the relationship with Christ continue to be nurtured and sustained.
Occasions arise when an adult seeks to make a mature affirmation or re-affirmation of faith. During the visitation of the Bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire, the Sacrament of Confirmation would gladly be offered at Emmanuel in consultation with the Priest-in-charge.
Weddings
The Sacrament of the Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage is offered at Emmanuel. Records show that the first wedding took place in 1890.Since then, 73 couples have shared their marriage vows in this lovely, historic sanctuary. The church is also available to those wishing to re-affirm their wedding vows, especially on the occasion of special milestones. Please consult with the Wardens or the Priest-in-charge.
Death & Burials
As Emmanuel has supported and nurtured many families and individuals through its long history, some members and friends yearn to be buried from and memorialized at the church. We are pleased to be able to offer this church and all of its resources on such occasions.
